I enjoy folk horror and superstition stories, so I was excited about Singsot Siulan Kematian. Unfortunately, the movie has a weak plot and leans too heavily on jump scares.
The camera work stands out and helps create a spooky atmosphere. One scene under the bed was especially creepy. However, the frequent jump scares quickly became less effective.
Based on Indonesian legends, the film expects viewers to know the background already. This made the plot confusing and fast-paced. I thought there would be a big scary event, but it never showed up. Some characters behaved strangely and seemed out of place.
It kicked off strong but lost its rhythm midway. The finish was weak, the visuals at times looked fake, and the plot was left hanging.
Not my favorite Indonesian film but it is worth a watch if you enjoy folklore horror and don’t mind a few rough edges. Singsot Siulan Kematian Review.
