Soulmate really surprised me with how emotional it was. It starts with Mi-so and Ha-eun meeting as teenagers and quickly becoming close friends. As they grow older, their friendship changes with time, distance, and everything life throws at them. What seems like a simple story becomes a touching look at how some bonds stay with us, even when people grow apart. It’s a quiet, honest film that really stays in your heart.
The silent moments are what truly stayed with me. The silences said as much as the dialogue. There’s a line that goes, “I missed you so much I thought I’d disappear,” and it just hit me. Another one, “We were different, but we were the same where it mattered”, perfectly captured the heart of their relationship.
The acting was incredible. Kim Da-mi and Jeon So-nee felt like they weren’t acting at all. I believed every glance, every word left unsaid. And the visuals? Absolutely stunning. The film doesn’t try too hard to impress, it just lets the story breathe.
It’s not a loud or dramatic film, but that’s what made it powerful for me. It made me reflect on people I’ve grown close to, and grown apart from. Soulmate isn’t just a film about friendship, it’s about how certain people stay with you, even when they’re not around.
