Sometimes a single month can change the way you see cinema. July was that kind of month for me. [July 2025 Wrapped].
I didn’t plan a theme, but somehow these four films ended up covering superhero grit, experimental horror, heartbreaking anime, and a powerful documentary. Each one challenged me emotionally, mentally, or cinematically.
Let’s dive into the four standouts that made my July unforgettable.
The Dark Knight (2008)
Yes, I’ve seen it before. But this rewatch hit different. To this day, Nolan’s Gotham remains the most realistic portrayal of superheroes. Heath Ledger’s Joker? Unmatched. Every scene with him crackles with chaos. This isn’t just a comic book movie. It’s a crime thriller with a cape.
Sinners (2025) – July 2025 Wrapped
This movie surprised me. It mixes art film and psychological horror. It does not give clear answers, which made me think a lot after watching. The cinematography was very good and created a strong mood throughout the film.
Grave of the Fireflies (1988)
I wasn’t ready. Even knowing its reputation, nothing prepares you for the emotional punch of this Ghibli masterpiece. It is tender and tragic, showing war through the quiet suffering of two children. I cried. Then I sat in silence for a long time.
Deaf President Now (2024)
I did not know much about the 1988 protest at Gallaudet University before watching this. The documentary showed how students and teachers worked together to ask for a deaf president at their university. Their message was clear, they wanted true representation. I was impressed by how focused and fearless they were. This film helped me understand why that moment was so important and why it still matters today.
July turned out to be one of my most memorable movie months this year. From the chaos of Gotham to the quiet pain of war, and from surreal horror to real-life protest, each film stayed with me for different reasons. Some challenged me, some broke me, and one opened my eyes to a story I should have known sooner. If I had this much variety and influence each month, I would never stop writing. [July 2025 Wrapped].
