I was really looking forward to Happy Gilmore 2 after so many years. At first, it felt like just another slow and tired Sandler film. The energy was low, and the jokes didn’t land as expected. But once the movie picked up pace, it slowly brought back the fun I hoped for.
The film is filled with cameos, almost too many to count. It becomes more of a spot-the-celebrity game than a proper comedy film at times. While fans will enjoy that, the plot takes a backseat. It feels more like a celebration of Sandler’s legacy than a solid sequel.
The story flips the original idea, aiming to bring golf back to tradition. Gilmore fights against flashy new trends with real-life golfers by his side. These players actually act, not just show up, and that adds fun to the movie. Their battle with “Maxi Golf” gives off strong WWE energy, making it absurd but entertaining.
Sandler looks tired but stays true to his loyal fans. His goofy energy is toned down, but his heart is still in it. The film includes sweet tributes to his late friends, which gives it a warm touch. It’s not a great film, but for Sandler fans, it’s just enough.
